The Soul of the Estate: Through the Centuries
The history of Les Belles Dormantes began in the mid-18th century, when the first stone of the manor was laid among the rolling hills of Charente. This cognac gite is not just a rental; it is a legacy where each generation of owners has made its contribution, carefully preserving its original spirit.
Our ancestors were not mere winegrowers — they were the guardians of the region's traditions and values. During the First World War, as a wealthy family deeply devoted to their homeland, they supported the war effort by donating their gold to the army, helping France stand firm during the darkest moments of its history.
The estate also survived the great ordeal of the 1880 phylloxera crisis. While this parasite destroyed almost all of the French vineyards, our property was able to resist thanks to the dedication and expertise of its owners at the time.
